Campus Infrastructure

Next Steps Into the Cloud

Notre Dame took additional steps to incorporate the flexibility, reliability, and scalability of the cloud during the last year. After successfully migrating the main website into Amazon Web Services (AWS), a team from OIT and University Communications transitioned all campus web pages hosted on the Conductor content management system into AWS. The OIT ensured that people can log into a variety of Notre Dame services hosted in the cloud, such as Gmail, Endeavor, Box, and Sakai, by providing authentication services hosted in AWS as well. The ND Mobile Application development team hosts all its app content from AWS servers so the app will continue to work even when Notre Dame’s network is not available.

By moving these additional services to AWS, OIT engineers were able to gain a better understanding of best practices for running cloud services from infrastructure, financial, and organizational perspectives.

The team is finalizing a strategy for Notre Dame to make use of the cloud.
