Teaching & Learning
Now in its second full year, Notre Dame’s Sakai learning management system continues to grow and evolve. In the 2013–2014 academic year, Sakai was used by over 10,500 students and 850 instructors.
Additionally, the look and feel of Sakai was updated to make it easier for faculty and students to find what they need. Handy dropdown menus were added to allow “one-click” access to the instructor’s course sites and selected tool.
The left-hand menu that contains the tools was modified so instructors can reorder the tools making those used most often appear first. Instructors can also customize their sites more easily. The most frequently used tools are turned on for each course by default; the other tools remain hidden until an instructor wants to use them. In addition, the Kaltura media gallery is now available from within Sakai so that faculty can easily make videos available to students as class resources.
In fall 2014, there were 1,345 active course sites published in Sakai.
